Speaking @ What Lies Upstream
John is a marine biologist with research experience in Australia and Antarctica. He has spent much of his life at sea, conducting research on marine organisms ranging from microscopic plankton up to seabirds, seals, dugongs and whales.
He is also involved in leading Antarctic eco-tourism expeditions, which gives him the opportunity to observe albatross populations on remote sub-Antarctic islands. Albatross populations around the world are threatened or endangered due to mortality caused by fishing, marine debris and the killing of eggs and chicks through rat predation.
John is an experienced tertiary educator, having taught courses in ecology, fisheries and environmental management at three universities over a period of 20 years. He is now involved in educating post-graduate students in strategies to solve complex water management challenges around the globe.
