Sanctuary follows international celebrity Javier Bardem, his brother, and the leaders of Greenpeace as they embark on an epic adventure to create the world’s largest sanctuary in the Antarctic Ocean. On their voyage aboard the Arctic Sunrise we are shown first-hand how science, politics and social media have joined forces to bring together almost 3 million people in the fight to preserve the natural world.
Through the eyes of Javier Bardem, Sanctuary follows the story of an ambitious environmental protection initiative to create the world’s largest marine sanctuary in the Antarctic Ocean.
The arrival of the 21st century has brought with it a constant barrage of information overload. Social media and the internet have forever changed the way we communicate, allowing us to reach every corner of the world.
In the fight to protect the environment, these new tools are especially important to raise awareness and gather the necessary support to champion this urgent cause.
We join brothers Javier and Carlos Bardem in their endeavour to raise the necessary awareness and support to make this initiative a reality. Gaining every inch of ground in this struggle to save the ecosystem of the last untouched wilderness on the planet is no easy task.
On their voyage aboard the Arctic Sunrise we are shown first-hand how science, politics and social media have joined forces to bring together almost 3 million people in the fight to preserve the natural world.

SHORT FILM
25zero // East Africa
Directed by Miles Rowland (16:58 min | Australia | 2019)
The world’s glaciers are disappearing and the first ones to die are where you’d least expect to find them – on the equator.
Tim Jarvis is a polar explorer and environmental scientist who famously recreated Shackleton’s and Mawson’s Antarctic expeditions. 25zero // East Africa is a short documentary that follows him and his team as they search for the regions mysterious and vulnerable glaciers. These natural rivers of ice have existed for tens of thousands of years, however they won’t survive the next 25.
Through the film, we follow Tim as he climbs these peaks, meets the locals and explores some of the most remote regions on the planet.
While the fate of these glaciers are sealed; world leaders, big corporations and us as individuals continue on our course of inaction leading to the inevitable question: ‘what else are we prepared to lose?’
