Moderator @ The Great Green Wall & When the River Runs Dry
Alanta is a science communicator, storyteller, comedian and public health nerd based in Melbourne.
She holds a Masters in International Public Health and has worked in health programs in Uganda, Kenya, Cambodia and East Timor on sanitation, HIV and Malaria.
She worked with Engineers Without Borders for 7 years, supporting partnerships with Aboriginal organisations, and taking engineering students to India, Samoa and Cambodia to learn in partnership with rural communities about sustainability and human centred design.
Her comedy shows ‘Parasites Lost’ and ‘Days of our Hives’ sold out shows at Melbourne International Comedy Festival and have been warmly received by audiences across Australia. She hates puns and the entire thing was excruciating. She’s been featured on ABC TV News, interviewed in Frankie Magazine, and is a regular on ABC radio with David Astle.
Alanta is also the boss of Sci Fight Science Comedy Debate, which brings together scientists and comedians to debate serious issues in a ridiculous manner. Sci Fight happens quarterly in Melbourne at the Howler Bar in Brunswick and goes on a National tour when it feels like it.
Alanta will be launching her new show ‘On the Origin of Faeces’ all about gut bacteria and poo at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival. It’ll be a proper s*&t show.
