Joseph is a PhD student from RMIT University’s School of Design. He researches appreciation of movement through the design of human drone interactions.
Joseph’s research centres around indoor drones and their direct manipulation by the human body. He creates movement based non-verbal relationships between drones and the human body by leveraging tight feedback loops of various modalities.
One such example is Drone Chi, an experience inspired by the martial art of Tai Chi, where a person moves with a drone in a slow and smooth manner. By following the drone with their hands, a person can learn how to relate to it on a bodily level. Before building on that relationship by leading the drone playfully and creatively. This enchanting experience creates a non-judgemental space for people to pay attention to subtle changes in their body.
