Paul Liknaitzky earned an Honours in Neuroscience and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Melbourne. He currently works as a Research Fellow at Deakin University, St Vincent’s Hospital, Odyssey House Victoria, and Macquarie University.
His work examines mental illness mechanisms and treatment development, primarily within depression and addiction research. Paul has extensive knowledge in psychedelic-assisted treatment for mental ill-health, and is focused on understanding what works, for whom, and why.
Paul is an investigator on Australia’s first psychedelic trial at St Vincent’s hospital, and is establishing other clinical psychedelic trials. Paul has been invited to deliver numerous academic, professional, and public talks on psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy research, and has been interviewed on the topic for print media (eg, The Guardian, The Sydney Morning Herald), radio (eg, ABC, 3CR), and podcasts (eg, Blindboy Podcast).
Paul is focused on establishing an expansive and rigorous program of research in psychedelic medicine, mitigating known risks, exploring potential drawbacks, and innovating on treatment design that improves and sustains beneficial outcomes.
